Natural History

The museum has a room dedicated to the natural history of Flinders Island, with displays of many and varied items from around the Island. These items include a collection of bird eggs that nest on the Island, Grogan Coral with starfish.
They also display fossils that have been dug up from waterholes and drains on the east coast of Flinders Island as well as some of the gemstones that are found on the Island.

No natural history collection would be complete without a collection of some of the many and varied shells that are found around the Furneaux Group, including the famous Paper Nautilus Shells

Also hidden behind glass cases are a couple of Flinders Islands not so welcome animals the Tiger Snake and the Copperhead Snake. Both these snakes are poisonous but will try and avoid confrontation with humans.
